Due to occurrence of many food safety problems in domestic and international; include the traditional food poisoning, mad cow disease in Europe and America, the forge certification on the place of origin in beef for Snowbrand Co. in Japan, to drug residuals on the agriculture and fishing products; all cause serious concerns from the consumers. The food safety becomes the most important element in the food supplying chain. All the countries devote great attention on the demands and regulations for this problem.
The ID and Tracking system has the complete records of the process from farm to the dinner table. Established the tracking or trace back system from the owner of the chicken farm all the way to the hands of the consumers so that the consumers can trace the origin of the chicken and understand the complete production process from the records. The traceability system apply to the agricultural industry is also called ‘ID and Tracking System’, therefore it is also named as traceability.
The Council of Agriculture promotes the ID and Tracking system since the 2005 fiscal year. Consideration on the factors include the international marketing, consumers’ concerns on the products, and characteristics of the regions, Council of Agriculture selected Taiwan native chicken in poultry product and others, total of seven items by implementing TGAP (Taiwan Good Agricultural Practice), hygiene of the feeding management, and use HACCP hygiene ideas with risk management as foundation to ensure the food safety and quality of the agricultural products. |

A. Farmers’ Perspective :
The ID and Tracking system can recall the records on the farm for the chicken farmer to monitor the self management and trace the problems at each stage of the breeding procedures. The chicken farmer has complete records from the source of the chicken, origin of the feed, origin of the vaccine, breeding records, antiepidemic, and usage of the drugs for the hygiene and management during the breeding time. Let the chicken farmer examine and follow the problem during breeding process to help in dealing with the problems after sales or discover the responsibilities.
B. Consumers’ Perspective :
The consumers can find the origin of the chicken after the purchased. The consumers even can trace the chicken they ate in every step in the process from the egg to the delicious dish. This system will let the consumers to enjoy the chicken at ease, because they can trace the origin and every step in the production of the dish they enjoy while eating the delicious chicken worry free about consuming the hazard substances such as the antibiotics, hormones, and heavy metals.
C. Industries’ Perspective :
There are many related companies on the production of the chicken, such as breeder plant, hatching plant, feed plants, electric slaughter house, pharmaceutical companies, retailers, and many more. For the problem Taiwan native chicken, one can follow the process to trace the causes and locate the defective product to recall and remove from the market. Also, the related companies can clear identify who will be responsible for the problem to minimize the economical loss by using the ID and Tracking information. |
